QuinnyG’s GOAT of the Week

1/27/22

Today we begin an amazing segment called QuinnyG’s GOAT of the week, where I will be giving out my vote of who the GOAT of the week is. This week, my GOAT of the week is Thomas Brady.

Tom Brady came out earlier this week with a lot of posts and interview responses that lead many to believe that the man out of time is, in fact, out of time, and will retire. If this is in fact the end of Tom Brady in the NFL I think it is fair to give him some love. I used to hate Mr. Brady when I was in my youth and somewhat through high school, but when I began to mature and after Eli Manning kicked his ass in 2 super bowls, I started to have an appreciation for TB12. The guy was the 200th overall draft pick, clawed his way to a stating spot in the NFL, and became the most successful Quarterback, and arguably most successful athlete, of all time. Seven super bowls and almost every record for a Quarterback ever; Brady just isn’t human. He has been competing at such a high level for so long that it is just incredible to witness. For those that don’t like Tom Brady for whatever reason-he’s soft, he’s a cheater- whatever it is, just take a moment and realize that he is the second greatest football player of all time (Lawrence Taylor is the GOAT). Ok now I’m done acting like every person you know from Massachusetts but my GOAT of the week is Tom Brady.

Best Divisional Round of all Time

1/23/20

I was in the 5th grade when the New York Football Giants went up to Green Bay and stunned the Packers with an incredible win in the divisional round. The Giants went on to beat the Patriots for the second time in a super bowl, making Eli Manning the greatest Brady killer of all time.

The San Fransisco 49ers did the same thing this weekend, in a cold ass Lambeau Field, stunning not just myself, but probably everyone in the country. We’ll start with this game I guess, which I think most could agree Aaron Rodgers just didn’t show up for. He lead an impressive opening drive but then, went radio silent. All credit to the 9ers D, who held Rodgers to zero, that’s right, ZERO touchdowns during the game and only another field goal for 10 total points. Also, big shoutout to the 9ers special teams, which won them the game by blocking a field goal right before halftime, and blocking a punt that went for a tuddy. Garoppolo did what he needed to, which was limit his turnovers and not completely suck. He was able to run the 2-minute drill that lead to the eventual game winning field goal, which I will admit was clutch. I do think that because of the QB play, this is probably the worst team heading to championship Sunday, but don’t rule these guys out just yet, especially since they’re undefeated against Sean McVay’s Rams.

Holy shit, today’s first game on the slate did not disappoint anyone on the planet earth. The crazy part, because there always needs to be drama circling Tom Brady, was the fact that this might’ve been his last game ever, or at least thats what twitter said what I looked at my phone when I woke up. If this was the GOAT’s last game, it was the most TB12 game ever. A shitty first half, being down 20-3 going into the third, then absolutely popping off in the second half, and even having what most believed was the touchdown drive to send it to OT. You know what the old saying is though, a starving dog is a dangerous dog, and Matt Stafford is one very hungry dog. He just had his first playoff win a week ago Monday, and he just wanted to be in a position to make a clutch play. A bomb to Cooper Kupp was all he needed. This game had its ups and downs, and it was the perfect warm up for the Sunday night game.

So I’m writing this about an hour and a half after the Buffalo Bills heartbreaker to the Kansas City Chiefs, and my heart is still racing. It seemed like early on it was gonna be a shootout, but then both defenses settled in. A third quarter surge lead by Patty Mahomes made it seem like the Chiefs were gonna run away with it, not if Buffalo’s son Josh Allen had something to say about it. The guy played his ass off tonight, and came surging back to make this game the shootout most of us wanted in the last 5 minutes of the game. I believe Tony Romo in the booth said there were 25 total points scored between the Bills and Chiefs in the final 1:40 of regulation, including a big response from Josh Allen after a crazy Tyreek Hill catch and run for seven, and a 13 second drive from Kermit the frog- I mean Patrick Mahomes- for the game tying kick from Harrison Butker to make it 36-36. Unfortunately for Josh Allen and the Bills Mafia, they didn’t get the ball off the coin toss and the Chiefs scored on the first possession of OT ending the game. If the NFL changed their OT rules, I’d probably still be on the couch watching Allen and Mahomes throwing darts. Well, the NFL sucks, but it’s awesome, starting with the dethroning of a king to start the weekend.

We’ll end with the beginning of the weekend, the Cincinnati Bengals vs the Tennessee Titans. My guy Joey Burreaux man. I dare you to try and find someone who hates this guy. Heads up, you can’t. Burrow got sacked 9 TIMES and still came up clutch when it mattered, leading the game winning drive to set up Even McPherson for a game-winning field goal. Burrow joined Donovan McNabb as the only two Quarterbacks in the playoffs to be sacked at least 8 times and still win. The defense, to everyone’s surprise, actually kinda stopped Dereck Henry. Yes, he played with a metal plate and 5 screws in his foot, but it’s still King Henry. They stopped him on some clutch 4 and inches plays, and they forced Ryan Tannehill to be great. Looking at this game with no dog in the fight, I’d blame the loss on the offense, particularly Tannehill, because if the defense had NINE sacks in a game and you aren’t producing more than 16 points, there’s something wrong.

Overall, this might be the best divisional round of all time. The first three games were all won by the away team, off of a game-winning field goal, and also knocked out both 1 seeds. The last game was by far the best game of the weekend, maybe the year, and it was the only one with the home team winning. I had a blast watching these games, and next week should not disappoint.

Giant Years to Come

1/21/22

Today marks the beginning of a new era for the New York Football giants. earlier today the front office hired Joe Schoen as the new general manager for the team.

As an avid Giants fan since the earliest of my days, I really like the hire. Joe comes from good stock, being with the Buffalo Bills for the past five years and with player development with the Miami Dolphins before. I think he’s a hungry front office guy to prove himself, and he knows the right way to do it. From a front office side it’ll be interesting to see what he does in the coming weeks, obviously beginning with hiring a new head coach.

From the rumor mill, some of the names being thrown out are both coordinators for the Bills, Brian Daboll and Leslie Frazier, as well as Brian Flores and Dan Quinn. My gut tells me that both the Bills coordinators have a leg above the other two candidates just because Joe Schoen just came from Buffalo. Of those two I’d rather have Daboll because Leslie Frazier has a rough history of being a head with struggles as the head coach for the Minnesota Vikings from 2010 through 2013.

Regarding the other two coaches, I don’t think Dan Quinn is ready to get back into being a head coach in the NFL. He had success as the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys, but they didn’t even make it passed the first round this year. Last time he got hired as a head coach, his defense was the best in the league with the Legion Of Doom in Seattle; oh and they won the super bowl.

I think Brian Flores has a bad taste in his mouth after the rough ending in Miami. I really like Flores’ coaching style from what I’ve heard about him and he’s my favorite option out of the coaches being rumored to get interviews.

Along with the coaching hire, Joe Schoen has to deal with free agency and the draft. The Giants have their backs to the wall with cap space so it’ll be interesting to see what players Schoen pulls in the offseason. Regarding the draft, having two top 10 picks as a new general manager must be a treat. I am very excited to see what he does in the draft, especially for a team that needs help everywhere.

What’s a Bruin?

1/20/22

Besides the Boston Bruins, what does anyone really know what exactly a bruin is? After a concise research project, a bruin is a bear, mostly used in children’s tales and fables. But let’s be honest, did anyone know what a bruin was before this?

I bring this up to compare the Boston Bruins to the Washington Capitals, as they are playing tonight. Most people know what a capital is, a city or a letter. Along with the Caps as they come to Beantown tonight is a rocky record as of late, but a red hot 36 year-old who leads the NHL in total points. Alex Ovechkin just cannot be stopped this year. by any team, including the Bruins. As long as the other older guys remain healthy, including Nicklas Backstrom and TJ Oshie, the Caps should smother the B’s tonight.

Now, to the home team. The Bruins are coming off of a very embarrassing loss to the Carolina Hurricanes 7-1 in Boston after retiring Willie O’Ree’s jersey number. Meanwhile, star forward Brad Marchand got into a twitter war with the Canes social media team, after someone compared him with Canes’ forward Vincent Trocheck. It went back and forth and even after the game ended, and let’s just say Brad has made another enemy in the NHL.

Both teams are coming off of losses, so a win could be big for each team. I’m leaning, obviously, with my Capitals. The Great 8 is just too hot, and once again he is taking the NHL over by storm, scoring more points then the best in the world like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. The Russian Machine is just too much for the Bruins tonight.

The First One

1/17/2022

There’s a first for everyone in everything. A child’s first word, a first date, or a first car. For me, this is the first blog post. The energy is electric and I cannot wait for the members of the planet earth to hear the stupid controversial takes that I have to offer. With that, here we go.

As an avid NFL fan and the playoffs going on, everyone just keeps asking who’s gonna make it to the super bowl. For me, it’s a tough call. The Bills looked sick against the Patriots and there was even a DILDO on the fucking field. The energy coming from Buffalo could send the Bills to SoFi Stadium in February. Kansas City looked dominant against the Steelers, but let’s be honest, did anyone think Big Ben was gonna have a good day? With a rocky start also, I don’t see KC making it out of the AFC, especially having to beat Buffalo and either the Bengals or Titans after.

My pick from the AFC is fucking nuts, but I gotta ride with the swagger of Joey B and the Bengals. They’re hot as shit as a team right now, and offensively they have shown they can play any style of game. they can run the ball in a grudge match, or go blow for blow in a shootout. Ya their defense isn’t the best, but they don’t need to be, they just need a few stops here and there and a turnover or 2 and BOOM! I can see them riding Joe Burrow all the way to LA.

Now for the NFC, and holy shit. I gotta finish this post so I can watch the rams game, which is either gonna be sick or dog water. my take here isn’t wrong, but right now it doesn’t look like anyone can beat the Packers. They’re gonna be coming off the bye week, the road goes through the frozen tundra, and they have all the right pieces all over the field. Their D is getting healthy, hopefully returning Jaire Alexander and even without him and some other starters they were dominating teams (except the GOAT Dan Campbell). Oh, I forgot to mention, they have the MVP of the league at quarterback. I hate to say it, but the only team I can see giving Green Bay a hard time, is the one with the old man leading the charge. Tom Brady played his entire career in the cold, so going up to green bay won’t rattle him as much as some of these teams that play in domes or in warm areas. I don’t see the Bucs winning, but it could be a close game.

So the Super Bowl is set. Packers and Bengals. It has potential to be a sick game with hopefully both teams’ defenses not playing great so it’ll be a shootout. Then the stage is set for Rodgers vs Burrow. Adams vs Chase. Dillon vs Mixon. My money, give me the Packers. Although if that game actually happens I’d root for the Bengals, I just think Aaron Rodgers is too good and is going to dominate the Bengals D. So there it is. Sorry Cowboys fans cause once again it’s not your year, but the Packers will be Super Bowl champions.
